Local Guidelines and Deadlines
for April 2009 - March 2010
Please find hereunder some important points, which you need to consider in your application for the Japan Foundation Grant Program for Intellectual Exchange Conference for the fiscal year April 2009– March 2010:
- The local deadline for the submission full-blown project proposal is on October 20, 2008 (Monday) . We do not accept proposals sent by fax or through email. The Japan Foundation, Manila will not accept proposals after the deadline.
- Application is open to universities or research institutions, non-profit organizations, NGOs, and international organizations. Applications from individuals and profit-oriented organizations are not accepted.
- Proposals without International collaboration and participation cannot be considered.
- The following are the qualified projects:
(1) Intellectual collaborative projects (e.g. international conferences, seminars, and workshops) addressing the following activities and focus:
- Activities that increase mutual understanding and tolerance for diversity
- Activities that contribute to the development of an equitable and open society
- Activities that contribute to the solution of common problems that Japan share with the world
In particular, the program gives priority to the activities with focus on
"Peace building and Culture."
(2) The following projects are not eligible for the program:
a. Projects solely dealing the theme in the field of natural science
b. Commercial activities, religious activities, political activities, and election campaigns
- In considering applications, projects with the following elements will be
evaluated highly:
a. Multilateral projects: projects which involve participation from a number of countries (i.e. not limited to bilateral exchange);
b. Multi-sectoral projects: projects that aim to include participants from a variety of sectors of society (e.g. academics, policy makers, community on non-governmental organizations);
c. Interdisciplinary projects: projects that aim to cross disciplinary boundaries, which contribute to the expansion and development of an extensive intellectual network. In particular, projects which contribute to the development of human resources for the next generation;
d. Dissemination of outcome: Projects that disseminate their outcome broadly efficiently to the public; and
e. Japan’s involvement: projects where Japan’s own experience, expertise and human resources are expected to be fully capitalized.
- The Japan Foundation, Manila will give priority to wokshops and/or training programs in which participants can get enlightened, and can develop their ability and skills.
- The average grant amount does not normally exceed P1,000,000.00 or its equivalent amount in dollar or yen.
- The full-blown project proposal should have a narrative description that clearly describes the following:
a. Background/rationale
b. Preliminary work/research done on the subject matter
c. Objectives
d. Description
e. Program of activities
f. Identification of possible Asian participation or collaboration
g. Expected output
h. Estimated total budget
- The project should be implemented within the fiscal year of Japan which is from April 1, 2009 – March 31, 2010.
- LOCAL PRE-SCREENING PERIOD. The Japan Foundation, Manila will conduct a pre-screening of the proposal submitted. After receiving applications, the Japan Foundation may contact or visit the office of the applicant for additional information about the project.
- Only a certain number of proposals will be selected. Qualified applicants would be notified or contacted by 3rd week of November 2008. Only the application of those who have been selected during the local pre-screening period will be sent to the JF Headquarter for its FINAL approval.
- Applicants would be notified or contacted about the result of the application by April 2009.
- The cash grant can only be remitted to the grantee after June or July 2009.
