A A classical music concert by four of Japan’s young classical musicians: Mr. Susumu Aoyagi (piano), Ms. Takako Hagiwara (flute), Ms. Ayako Ishikawa (violin), and Ms. Risa Kataoka (koto). Each have their own successful careers, but join together to form a new quartet as Japan’s Ambassadors of Music, celebrating Philippines-Japan Friendship Month.

Their repertoire includes Western classics, as well as traditional Japanese pieces and renditions of Japanese anime theme songs.

Joining the group, in the spirit of cultural exchange, is classical and jazz guitarist, Mr. Butch Roxas.

The Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM) and the mcad, Museum of Contemporary Art and Design of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde School of Design and Arts, present a contemporary art collaboration featuring the Japanese exhibition, “Passage to the Future: Art from a New Generation in Japan” back to back with the Filipino display entitled, “Draw/Back”, curated by Marian Pastor-Roces, at the mcad, g/f DLS-CSB-SDA, 950 P. Ocampo St., Malate, Manila from July 7 to August 7. The exhibit is co-organized by the Embassy of Japan, and is a special event marking July as the Philippines-Japan Friendship Month.

Eigasai 2009In celebration of Philippines–Japan Friendship Month, the Japan Foundation, Manila, in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan, the Shangri-La Plaza Mall, and the UP Film Institute proudly presents a Japanese Contemporary Film Festival, titled “Eigasai ‘09” (literally means ‘film festival’ in Japanese) that will serve as its kick-off activity on July 2, 2009 at Shang Cineplex Cinema 3 for the month-long celebration.

JFM Manga Collection in English

The JFM library is pleased to announce the acquisition of Manga collection in English.

Manga is a general term for serialized Japanese comic or graphic novel. Japanese people of all ages read manga widely. It has become popular not only in Japan but around the world.

The manga collection includes a genre of different subjects: action-adventure, romance, sports and games, comedy, music, science fiction and fantasy, mystery and detective fiction.

Everyone is welcome to read.

Nihongo Teacher Training Course
(PTA – Theme 3)

The Japan Foundation, Manila in its continuing effort for the professional enrichment of Filipino Nihongo Teachers (their development and advancement of Japanese-language skills and teaching methodology) and in general, for the further encouragement of Japanese Language Education in the Philippines, will open on June 15 (Monday) a Nihongo Teaching Skills Program under the title - “Practice Teaching Advanced Course (PTA) - Theme3” at the Japan Foundation,Manila.

The course is open for active Nihongo teachers. Applicants are expected to have mastered the elementary level of Nihongo (JLPT Level 3 or its equivalent).
