      Topic:

      Introduction to ARCS Model in the Japanese Language Classroom

      by Mr. Cristopher Dofitas (Japanese-language Lecturer, University of the Philippines-Diliman; Grantee of the Japan Foundation’s Long-term Training Program for Foreign Teachers of the Japanese Language in Urawa, Saitama, Japan, September 2015 – March 2016)

      How do you keep your students engaged and motivated during your class? How do you keep them motivated during a whole language course?

      Let’s re-evaluate our lesson plans to see if we have included the four aspects of the ARCS Model.

      Attention– Keep your students interested at the beginning and during the lesson;

      Relevance– Show your students how the lesson can be useful now and in the future;

      Confidence– Guide your students by gradually giving them challenges of increasing difficulty;

      Satisfaction– Allow your students to see how much they’ve accomplished.
